Although Cacao is a beautiful, natural and loving plant medicine, there are some contraindications with taking ceremonial Cacao. If any of the following apply to you, please consult your GP before taking Ceremonial Cacao.
Medication (Antidepressants)
SSRI antidepressants and anti-psychotics are not compatible with the MAOI’s (Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors) in cacao. Low doses are generally fine, people on higher doses of SSRIs should drink less cacao.
Heart:
Cacao generally increases the heart rate. If this is a concern for your body then please check with your GP before drinking.
Blood Pressure:
Cacao tends to lower the body’s blood pressure. If this is a concern for your body then please check with your GP before drinking.
Pregnancy:
No known contraindication in preganacy and breastfeeding, cacao can be supportive to your health but listen to your body and use less than 20 grams. Consult your GP before drinking if concerned.
